Adirondack Harvest events kick off this month

Sep 05, 2008

September marks the beginning of Adirondack Harvest Festivals and the kick-off of a culinary calendar of exciting events, cooking classes and demonstrations, exhibits, tastings and farm tours. From the Speculator Fall Fest to the Cream Cheese Festival in Lowville - these gastronomic adventures will satisfy all five senses.

Adirondack Harvest is a community organization formed in 2001 to maintain sustainable farmland in the region. Members strive to keep local, farm-fresh food available through farmers markets, Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) and Adirondack Harvest Festivals.

Learn about local foods and how you can get involved in the Adirondack Harvest by visiting area farms during two farms-to-restaurants tours in September. Enjoy a delicious dinner made of products from farms you visited during the day.

Join the folks at Crooked Brook Studios Art Farm in Westport on Sept. 11. This early 20th century farm with "bio-organic eruptions" of art appearing across the landscape will feature oil paintings and monumental sculpture exhibits.

Visit the Cream Cheese Festival in Lowville Saturday, Sept. 20, for live music, food and cream cheesy fun! The free event features a cream cheese toss and plenty of cheese cake.
