Winter in the North Country

The towns and villages that make up the Adirondack Region will be hosting several winter festivals and outdoor carnivals to celebrate the season. Following is a summary of the upcoming winter events in the Adirondacks:

The Long Lake Winter Carnival will host activities for the whole family such as games, skating races and a bonfire with fireworks at dusk.

The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival is the oldest winter festival in the eastern United States, and this years theme "Hooray for Hollywood 2008", will feature its well known Ice Palace, sculptures, sporting events, concerts, parades, fireworks and much more.

Canton's Winterfest will kick-off with their annual celebration dinner followed by a series of new events including karaoke contests and a design next year's logo contest for elementary children. The best submission will be chosen for the '09 Winterfest design. Hats, mittens and sock donations will be accepted during the festival for school children in need.

The Indian Lake Winter Festival Weekend will feature skiing and snowboarding contests, snowshoe outings, bonfires and fireworks.

The Raquette Lake Winter Carnival will also feature its share of family fun with games, a firework display and contests all weekend.

Each weekend in February Lake George's Winter Carnival will feature an array of events that include dog pulls, cook offs, races on the ice, sleigh rides and firework displays.
