The Gilded Age, a phrase coined by Mark Twain, relates to the vast fortunes that were accumulated by the captains of industry in the 1800s. Railroads and steel are just some industries of the time that brought wealth to names such as Vanderbilt, Rockefeller, Carnegie and J.P. Morgan.

They chose to build their summer homes in a place where they could live in luxury in the most remote wilderness.

The Gilded Age Tour explores this era and is partnered with the Adirondack Museum, Great Camp Sagamore (the Vanderbilt's summer home) and Cruises on Raquette Lake aboard the W.W. Durant.

The tour runs from Memorial Day to October.
