Mr Griffith, author of The Battle of Lake George, will speak on what took place on September 8, 1755 when a force of French Regulars, Canadians and Indians under the command of French General Jean-Armand, Baron de Dieskau ambushed British forces under the command of General William Johnson in a conflict for control of Lake George. Lake George, as a major water transportation route, was one of the most contested regions of the French and Indian War. Mr Griffith is a native of Branchburg, New Jersey whose passion for the French and Indian War began as a child when he visited Fort William Henry located at the southern end of Lake George.
