The glory of hiking in the Adirondacks is that
in the course of a day, you may reach a destination that offers wilderness
solitude or views of unbroken forest, lakes and mountains. And by evening,
you can be dining in a fine restaurant, later to be tucked into a comfortable
bed.
The Adirondack Park is a patchwork of private and public lands, unlike any
other park in the United States. So while the backcountry inventory is immense
- the nation's largest trail system at more than 2,000 miles - so too, are
the nearby comforts.
