Adirondack Snowshoeing

Snowshoe the Adirondacks, over 6 million acres to choose from.

The Adirondack Region offers thousands of miles of snow covered trails through the wilderness, open fields, and Nordic Centers for all abilities. Trailheads are easily accessible, and are located throughout the Park. From rugged expeditions in the High Peaks, to gentle paths over frozen ponds, every outing provides stunning vistas and a chance to see wildlife around every bend.

Pack the right gear for winter: Day pack should include extra winter clothing, compass, GPS and map, energy bars, granola, candy, whistle, water in an insulated bottle to prevent freezing, extra socks, sun screen, waterproof matches. Be sure to tell someone where you are going, and pay attention to the weather.

Snowshoe vacations:

Some Adirondack lodges offer special snowshoe opportunities. The Fern Lodge and Packbasket Adventures Lodge are just a couple of examples. The Adirondack Park Visitor Interpretive Centers in Newcomb and Paul Smiths offer miles of trails and free use of snowshoes. The famed Jackrabbit Trail stretches 35 miles through the High Peaks from Keene to Paul Smiths. Other snowshoe opportunities can be found at Mt. Van Hoevenberg, Garnet Hill, Lapland Lake, and The New Land Trust. Many State Parks including Robert Moses in Massena and Point Au Roche along Lake Champlain offer fabulous snowshoe trails and amazing views.
