From the Dwight D. Eisenhower Lock Viewing Deck and Interpretive Center you can watch huge tankers and ships being lifted or lowered 42 feet in the lock chamber. A parking area on the north side of the lock provides a vantage point when the viewing deck is closed. Call ahead to determine when ships will be arriving at the locks.
