Look for boreal species along the dirt road and Warblers on the trail to the summit fire tower. Boreal Chickadee, Bicknell's Thrush in the high-elevation zone. To reach the trailhead, take the Perkins Road just north of Mason Lake on Route 30. Follow this dirt road to the first right turn marked by DEC signs. Those without 4WD will have to park at Sled Harbor at the next intersection. The right fork leads to a rock barrier at about .5 mile. From this barrier, it's a two mile hike to the summit. 1,677 feet. The fire tower trail is a left turn off the main trail to Cedar Lakes.
