Garnet Hill in the winter is beautiful - enjoy the Southern Adirondack scenery.
The guided snowshoe hikes take you into the woods where you can enjoy the outdoors and learn about local history along the way. Our guides are very knowledgeable and like to share.
On Saturdays beginning at 1pm you'll trek either the Hooper Loop or the Balm of Gilead at 1pm. Hooper Loop will take you up to the rim of Hooper Mine, and then continue on to William Blake Pond - a beautiful stop and home to plenty of wildlife. Balm of Gilead is a small mountain near the Outdoor Center. This climb provides a good winter workout - but isn't too long. The view from top of Thirteenth Lake and the Adirondack Mountains - absolute majesty. The hike is approximately 2.5-hours.
On Sundays beginning at 10am we'll hike to the Hooper Mine. This is an easy and laid back hike. Our guide will share information about the mine and it's connection to our historic lodge. There are abandoned mines shacks to discover along the path, and you'll search for clues from the past and garnet embedded in the rocks of the old mine. The hike is approximately 1.5-hours.
Please stop in or call to register. We have snowshoe rentals available for a fee; please inquire.
