The trail to beautiful Puffer Pond skirts a chain of beaver dams, marshes, and open flows along Carroll Brook. This hike ends at a lean to sitting 15 feet above and on the shore of Puffer Pond. Start at the same trailhead as for Chimney Mountain, parking at the Cabins at Chimney Mountain. There is a $1 parking fee. Take the trail to the right, following the red DEC trail markers. for 2.1 miles to the lean to on the lake. You will climb over 350 feet on the way in, and descend 150 feet down to the lake. There is another lean to 0.2 mile to the left of the 1st lean to with many camping opportunities in between.
