We offer private instruction, group programs, school outings and vacation getaways for half-day, full-day, overnight and multi-day excursions. In winter, it's no different for us, we live for snow and ice and take advantage of every prime opportunity to help you get out and enjoy the atmosphere in a fun and safe fashion.
We boast some of the finest licensed New York State guides in the Adirondack Park and a professional sales staff to help you gear up and plan your next adventure. We are fully insured and have guides certified by Red Cross, American Heart Association, SOLO, New York State and AMGA. We are a member of the American Canoe Association and partners with the American Alpine Club.
Here for an extended stay? Have a large group? We have two group lodging houses available, located on Main Street and walking distance from all the amenities Lake Placid has to offer. Housing 10 and 12 people comfortably with living space, full kitchens and baths and laundry on premise you can have all the comforts of home, while away.
Paddling Excursions by Canoe and Kayak:
We provide shuttle services, outfitting and trip planning for all types of water explorations. Our guide service can get you out on the water for half day, full day, overnight and multi-day outings. We also offer a two hour introductory course for beginners who want to develop basic skills to feel comfortable out on the open water.
Rock climbing opportunities in the Adirondacks are endless whether you are a beginner or an experienced climber. Our guides can provide you with a climbing experience that will last a lifetime. We also offer instructional courses in all level of the rock craft. If you want to learn top roping, lead climbing, knot work, anchor setting, it's no problem.
GPS and Orientation:
Learn the basics of GPS use, as well and map and compass use, in the field by putting your skills to use in the back-country. Explore destinations on a map by placing your learned skills to the test.
Camping and Backpacking:
Want to get way out there, we can plan an overnight or multi-day camp outing and even bag a few peaks during the day. Want a 101 introductory course for camping preparation from set-up to break-down, no problem.
Bushwhacking and Route-Finding:
Bushwhack a seldom explored peak to hidden views or learn route-finding skills for travel off-trail. Learn the basics of reading a map and how to use it in the field. Find out what it takes to feel comfortable without the security of developed trail or destination.
Road Biking and Adventure Cycling:The Adirondack roadways and byways offer the cyclist some of the very best road routes and scenery in the world. Our popular Coaching Rides give you the best of both worlds with skill and technique learning and a day of riding. Our professional staff will make you feel comfortable and confident. The very best scenery, finest route selection and professional staff all make your day memorable. From beginner riders to experienced racers we offer the very best that the Adirondacks have to offer. Mountain Biking:High Peaks Mountain Bike Center at Mount Van Hoevenberg (OSC) is celebrating 20 years of helping riders become better. The Center offers excellent opportunities to ride some of the best trails in the Adirondacks. With well over 20K of world class single track trails and even more double track trails, we offer something for everyone. Rental bikes, lessons, repair center, slalom and trail courses with a friendly and professional staff. To hone your skills sign up for a "Fun not Fear" Dirt Camp and become the rider you always wanted to be. Our downtown Lake Placid Store, High Peaks Cyclery, has a repair, rental and sales department. We are located mile from the famed Lussi Trail System. Park and Ride right from our parking lot.
