Totality in Tupper with the Adirondack Sky Center

Tupper Lake, NY is in the heart of totality for the April 8, Total Solar Eclipse with a whopping 3 minutes and 35 seconds of totality. It is “Eclipse Central” for those wanting to experience a festival-like environment before, during, and after the eclipse.

The Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory has numerous family-oriented activities planned, and has partnered with the entire community to provide a fun, informative, engaging, and safe experience for all visitors.  A 36’ mega-screen will provide numerous multimedia experiences throughout the weekend.  Music, food, and entertainment will be provided for this once-in-a-lifetime celestial event.

Below are just some of the activities and events currently being planned by the Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory. Check back for updates and additions to the schedule as other organizations' plans are made. Modification of the overall schedule may occur as more events are finalized.

Sunday, April 7th

Monday, April 8th

  • 10:00 a.m. (Activity) How Can the Little Moon Hide the Giant Sun?
  • 10:00 a.m. (Activity) Exploring Earth:  Bear’s Shadow
  • 10:00 a.m. (Instruction) Solar Imaging
  • 11:00 a.m. (Activity) Beach Ball Demonstration
  • 11:00 a.m. Guest Speaker
  • 12:00 p.m. (Activity) Cereal Box Viewers
  • 1:00 p.m. (Demonstration) Measuring the Effects of an Eclipse on the Ionosphere
  • During the Eclipse:
    • 36’ Screen broadcast of NASA’s live stream as the eclipse passes through Kerrville, Texas; Indianapolis, Indiana; and Cleveland, Ohio on its way to Tupper Lake. (The Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory is being considered as a 4th site for NASA’s live stream broadcast.)
